A chilly October morning in Cornwall, and we’re off to Bodmin & Wenford Railway to shoot our Christmas Collection with the help of Kernow Dream Photography, Madame Tashy and Models Megan, Holly, Liam and Tian.
The location of our shoot is part of the Cornwall Railway which was opened between Truro and Plymouth in 1859 and became part of the Great Western Railway in 1876. The Bodmin to Boscarne Junction (a distance of 3 miles) was opened in September 1888 which is where the Bodmin and Wenford Railway is located. The route for passengers was active until 1963, it was then used purely for commercial haulage until 1983. In 984 this section of track and railway was purchased by the Bodmin Railway Preservation Society. The railway was fully opened with services from Bodmin General to Boscarne Juction in 1996 and the attraction has been a busy tourist destination ever since.
Tashy has created the hair and make up based on a 1940’s look. Holly’s hair has been curled and piled high, whereas Megan’s style was a little more difficult to achieve. The make up is delicate and very feminine.
Holly and Megan are pictured outside of the W35130 train carriage wearing our Polar Bear and Igloo Dresses, whereas the boys are wearing Russian Vintage Military coats.
Outside on the platform of Bodmin General the models are pictured with locomotive number 4612 – which was built in 1942 in Swindon, it is a Great Western Pannier Tank 0-6-0 locomotive which was used for transporting passengers and goods. These locomotives were once common throughout the Great Western and latterly the Western Region of British Railways. This particular example was withdrawn from service in 1965 and following restoration in 1987 made it’s way to the Bodmin and Wenford Railway in the year 2000.
The team of volunteers and staff in Bodmin completed further work, returning it to service in 2013. Now the locomotive is a common sight at the railway, used for passenger excursions and for driver training courses. As part of Bodmin & Wenford Railways events programme, you can visit the railway over the festive period for a ‘Santa by Steam’ experience where mince pies and hot drinks are served aboard the one hour train journey and children can visit Father Christmas.
Holly is pictured wearing a Christmas Stocking Dress from Silly Old Sea Dog’s Christmas Collection available in UK sizes 6-24. This is worn with Christmas Present shoes made to order from You Shu – these shoes can be ordered in all sizes in heeled or flat varieties, and are smothered in glitter and Christmas cheer!
Megan is pictured wearing our Christmas Gnome Dress with long petticoat and shoes from Yu Shoe. Behind Megan you can see a festive floral garland made by Karen at Floral creations St Austell. The garland has been made using evergreens, cinnamon, apples and other spices.
Megan and Holly are also pictured wearing our dresses with pencil skirts in a Reindeer and Santa’s Holiday print. This have a longer length skirt and are more of a wiggle dress fit.
The Silly Old Sea Dog dresses are worn with a petticoat and matching belts from the collection, and available in the pictured Stocking, Gnome, Polar Bear and Eskimo prints.
Silly Old Sea Dog wishes you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year filled with plenty of Vintage Cheer!
